So last week I had the good fortune to be reunited with someone very close to me. Her name is Ju Hyun and I first met her while she was on exchange in Vermont about two years ago. During the school year, we spent so much time together and became so close. She taught me all about her home and about different Korean music, movies, and food. I owe a lot of my love for Korea to her and when we had to say goodbye two years ago, it was quite a difficult thing for me. I met her in front of The 연희관 (I'm sorry I don't know how to romanize this but there's a picture!) and we hugged for a long time and I nearly cried because I was so happy.
It will probably look a lot more beautiful in the spring when the ivy is green!
I was able to speak with her, for the most part, in Korean. This for me, was such an amazing experience because when I first met her I knew absolutely no Korean and this time I was able to have a real conversation with her. She was so patient with me and spoke slowly enough for me to understand. We walked together to Hongdae and she told me all about what she had been up to and about the area we were walking around. Hongdae is the area around Hongik University, which has a more artsy reputation, so there are a lot of quirky cafés, clothing stores, and street art.
I also saw the coffee shop from Coffee Prince!
For lunch we ate noodles in black bean sauce, called jjajangmyeon. This dish is super yummy, super greasy, and super fattening. So, so, so delicious!!
After lunch we went to a dog café called Café Bau House!! You buy a drink and you can play with doggies of all different sizes!
For dessert we went to a café called Café the Bridge, where you can go up into tiny little closed off rooms in the attic that have small tables and pillows and blankets. We ordered a chocolate cake, a vanilla latte, and a pumpkin latte. It was so expensive but so tasty!
After that, we went to Home Plus, which is a huge supermarket. It's kind of like Wal-Mart if Wal-Mart was clean and well organized and had a food court. I bought a bunch of snacks for my room.
Here are some other photos I took walking around.
See you guys soon! The next entry will be all about my birthday!!
